Central Statistical Bureau (further in the text - CSB) is carrying out a mobility survey of Latvian population in 2021.
Aim of the survey is to find out mobility behaviour of Latvian population in 2021 – when and how did they travel. For example, how many kilometres on average one resident of Latvia travels a day, what modes of transport are used and, what are the most common reasons for travel.
According to the previous mobility survey data (2017), on average one resident of Latvia travelled 2.7 km on foot daily, but travel distance using various modes of transport per one Latvian resident on average comprised 29.6 km a day. In turn, the most common reason for travel of Latvian residents was going to and from work (34 %). In 24 % the reason for travel was shopping, but in 20 % – leisure.
The survey is implemented with the European Union financial support within the framework of project Passenger Mobility and Road Transport Statistics.

If you are invited to participate in the survey
11 thousand of Latvian population aged 15 to 84 years were selected with the help of random sampling method for assessment of mobility of Latvian population, taking into account their place of residence, age and sex.
Each resident included in the survey is assigned one week day, which needs to be described for the needs of the survey, remembering all travels made during the day starting from 3:00 o’clock in the morning until 3:00 o’clock in the morning the next day.
Online survey
Online survey will take place from 31st of August to 24th of September 2021 on CSB website e.csp.gov.lv.
The survey can be filled in online only by a person having received invitation letter to participate in the survey.

Telephone interviews
Telephone interviews take place from September 27th till December 15th. CSB interviewer will arrange interview time with you. Identity of the interviewer can be verified in the CSB section “Contacts” or by calling telephone number +371 67366608.
Face-to-face interviews
In 2021 face-to-face interviews will take place only in case epidemiological situation in the country allows it. CSB interviewer will arrange face-to-face interview time with you.
In accordance with the effective regulatory enactments of the European Union and the Republic of Latvia, the Central Statistical Bureau is entitled to collect and process personal data. We are obliged to ensure the protection and confidentiality of the data you provide – we may not transfer the obtained data to any other institution (for example, State Revenue Service, banks) or persons. All data are published only in aggregated form.
