As of February 1, the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) has launched its annual survey on recreational and business trips of residents. Twelve thousand Latvian households will be surveyed about their travel habits, trip purposes, and expenditures. The data obtained are used to plan investments in tourism infrastructure, develop new leisure areas and nature trails, improve public transport in tourist destinations, and help entrepreneurs understand what services travellers are looking for.

Baiba Zukula, Deputy Director General of the CSB, highlights: ‘The survey provides a clearer picture of how residents of Latvia travel — where they go, what modes of transport they choose, and what costs they incur. This information is essential for the evidence-based planning of the development of transport, accommodation, and tourism infrastructure in Latvia’.

How to participate?

  • If you have received an invitation, you can complete the questionnaire online at e.csp.gov.lv within the time specified in the letter.
  • If the questionnaire cannot be completed online, a CSB interviewer will reach out to schedule a phone interview, with flexible hours including weekends.

We encourage you to respond even if you have not travelled recently – responses are crucial for an accurate representation of travel patterns.

Households included in the survey were selected using a random sampling method. The CSB guarantees the confidentiality of the responses provided, and the information obtained is used only in aggregated form.

About the survey

The survey on recreational and business trips is carried out across all European Union member states according to a standardized methodology, making it possible to compare Latvia’s tourism trends with other countries and monitor changes over time. The survey results are used to support decision-making on tourism policy and infrastructure development at both the national and European levels. This survey is being conducted in Latvia for the 14th consecutive year.

The survey in Latvia is conducted continuously from 1 February 2026 through 31 January 2027.
