For several years, Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia (hereinafter – the CSB) has been estimating usually resident population of Latvia from administrative data. Aiming to test accuracy of this method, CSB for the first time will verify compliance of the administrative records on usual residents of Latvia with the real-life situation.

The survey sample consists of 2 000 people selected with a random sampling method. The sampled respondents will receive a CSB letter inviting to take part in the survey.

The survey will be carried out within the framework of the grant project Development of a Population Statistical Method Using Signs of Life in National Registers undertaken based on the grant agreement No 101101542-2022-LV-POP-MIGR between the European Commission and the CSB.

The applicable laws and regulations of the European Union and of the Republic of Latvia allows the CSB to collect and process personal data and mandates it to ensure the protection and confidentiality of the data received. The information obtained from the survey will only be used as summarised data, thus ensuring the confidentiality of personal data.

Personal and telephone interviewing

Respondents will be contacted by a CSB interviewer during the period from 20 December 2023 to 19 March 2024 to arrange a telephone or personal (if the conditions to protect health of the society permit) interview.

Upon arrival, the interviewer will present a CSB employee identification card with a photo. Respondents can verify identity of the interviewer or find out more about the survey by calling a toll-free assistance number +371 80008811 on weekdays from 10:00 to 18:00.
