Survey on the Use of ICT in Households and by Individuals 2026

To find out how much time residents spend online, for what purposes they use the internet, and how technologies affect their daily lives, on January 12 Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia (CSB) will launch the annual survey on internet use in Latvia.

Did you know that in 2025, 94.1 % of households had an internet connection, with the figure reaching as high as 95.8 % in the Riga region? At least once a week, 93.6 % of Latvia’s residents use the internet – 1.3 percentage points more than in the previous year.

More than a third of users (35.1 %) have already used artificial intelligence tools. However, in everyday life, people most often perform practical activities online — 85.8 % use online banking, 83.2 % use email, and 83.0 % send messages via messaging apps.

The population survey will take place from January 12 to May 29, and it includes 8.5 thousand respondents aged 16 to 74, covering all regions of Latvia. The respondents were selected with a random sampling method.

The survey will be arranged in two parts.

  • The 1st part (January 12 to February 20)
Residents included in the survey sample will receive a physical letter or an email inviting them to participate in the survey by completing an online questionnaire at e.csp.gov.lv. In order to be authorized, internet banking, e-signature, e-identification card or SmartID must be used.

If any questions arise, consultations on filling out the e-survey will be available from January 12 to February 20 on weekdays from 10:00 to 18:00 by a toll-free assistance number +371 80008811 or e-mail – ikt@csp.gov.lv.

  • The 2nd part (February 23 to May 29)
If the e-survey will not be completed by February 20, starting from February 23 a CSB interviewer will contact the respondent to arrange a telephone interview.

Identity of the interviewer can be verified on the CSB website or by calling the toll-free assistance number +371 80008811 (on weekdays from 10:00 to 18:00). CSB guarantees the confidentiality of the information obtained in the survey.

The survey on ICT use in households and by individuals, co-financed by the European Union (EU), will be carried out for the 22nd consecutive year in 2026. Its results allow us to follow how the use of internet in Latvia has developed and changed over time. The data obtained are used for shaping information technology policies, calculating indicators included in the Digital Decade Policy Programme 2030, as well as evaluating the goals set in the National Development Plan of Latvia.

More information on the use of information and communication technologies in households is available on official statistics portal in section Information Technologies.
