Aija Žīgure has been the President of the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia (CSB) since 1998. Before taking on the duties of President, Mrs Žīgure worked in the fields of price and trade statistics, regional statistics, data dissemination, and held the position of Vice-President of CSB, thus continuously investing her professional competences for the development of National Statistical System.

Ever since Latvia regained its independence, Mrs Žīgure has provided great contribution to the alignment of the official statistics of Latvia to the requirements of the European Union (EU), as well as the international standards of the United Nations. At the time being Mrs Žīgure represents the National Statistical Institute in national and international bodies, giving her input for better and comparable statistics.

Contributions made by Mrs Žīgure within the field of official statistics have been recognized both, within Latvia and internationally. She has been presented with the Award of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia for continuous and highly professional work and innovative approach to the development of the national statistical system, as well as the Cross of Recognition for merits in the development of the state statistical administration, extensive personal contribution in the formation of statistical standards and methodology, thus facilitating the inclusion of the Latvian statistical system in the EU statistical system. Since 2020 Mrs Žīgure is the Honorary Member of the University of Latvia and has been presented with the Certificate of Gratitude from the Latvian Academy of Sciences on the occasion of 100 years of Statistics Latvia.
